Fungal evolution
Fungal phylogeny

We're only now beginning to understand the true evolutionary relationships
among fungi. At the Shefferson lab, we are proud to have contributed by
discovering a new species of edible fungus -
Boletus chocoensis.
Caption: The complicated but amazingly edible Boletus chocoensis. This mushroom former is
typically found in Japanese houses and other dwellings, but has travelled across the Pacific to
North America. A surprising find that is allowing us to re-write the evolutionary history  of
chocolate.
